Obituaries
ROCKY POINT--Earnest Raymond “Ray” Wood Sr., 84, died Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at his residence.
He was born Sept. 3, 1925 in Scotts Hill, son of the late John Woods and Lucy Tompkins Wood Benton. Wood was a former owner of Ray’s Sandblasting and Painting Company and a member of American Legion Post 10. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He loved working in his yard, tending his azaleas.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy; a daughter, Kathryn Parker (Jay); a son, Ray Wood Jr.; two grandchildren, David and Amy; a great-grandson; two sisters, Catherine Schuenan and Edith Benton and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will military honors were held Friday, July 23, 2010 at Greenlawn Memorial Park with the Chaplain of American Legion Post 10 officiating.

ROCKY POINT--Richard D. “Rick” Winn, 60, died Wednesday July 21, 2010 at his residence. He was born Feb. 26, 1950 in Sharon, Conn. and was raised by foster parents Sara Brownlowe and the late Bill Brownlowe.
Winn was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served honorably in the U.S. Army. He was the owner and operator of Winn’s Video and Coastal Home Care and a past member of the Burgaw Chamber of Commerce and Pender County Board of Recreation.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Candace Lyness Winn; two sons, Ryan Winn of Rocky Point and Corey Winn of the home; a brother, Ed Gschwandtner of Laurel, Del.; a sister, Donna Blankenship (Ralph) of Fredrick, Md.; two brothers, Chuck Brownlowe (Patti) of Fredrick, Md. and Lee Brownlowe (Kathy) of Maryland; and many nieces, nephews.
A memorial service was held Monday, July 26, 2010 at Harrell’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Ray Mendenhall officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Pender County Humane Society, 1407 Hwy. 53 W. Burgaw, N.C. 28425.
Harrell’s Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Burgaw handled the arrangements.
SURF CITY--Jeffrey Scott Golder, 56, died July 19 fighting a battle against AML.
He was born and raised in Wilmington, Del. He raised his family in Lexington, S.C. and fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning a beach house in Surf City. He was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Golder and a brother, Bruce Golder.
Golder graduated from Claymont High School in 1972. He attended Penn State University through a football scholarship and graduated in 1976. Most of his working career involved sales within steel production. Golder was a natural athlete that excelled in swimming and football.
Survivors include his loving wife, Brenda “Kinney” Golder; two sons, Seth Golder (Courtney) and Nathan Golder; a grandson, Abram Golder; his father, Donald Golder; and a sister, Maureen Golder LaPorte (Bruce); three sister-in-laws, Shelley Golder, Sheila Armbruster (Mark) and Deborah Kinney; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the Jewish Community Cemetery of Wilmington, Del.
